sir,
In continuation of my Despatch No. 169 of the
18th. of May, I have the honour to recommend that in the event of
your consenting to the taking over of the Ellis Kado orie School by Government, the post of Head Master may be offered to Mr. R. E. 0. Bird of Queen's College.
2.
Mr. Bird has proved himself an efficient laster, and thoroughly capable of controlling a large school. In selecting him I have passed over the claims of two other senior officers to whom the appointment would mean promotion, namely, Messrs. Tanner and James. The latter is not in my opinion suitable for the manage- -ment of a large school, and the former I wish to reserve for the better post of Second Laster at Queen's College which will be vacant in the near future in consequence of certain changes in the personnel which will follow on the Head Master's retirement.
The Trustees of the Ellis Kadoorie School have,
3.
I understand, recently appointed one of the Junior Liasters to be Acting Head Master pending the change in the status of the school. He is reported to be a useful man and I propose to offer him a position in the Government Service, subject to the usual conditions, as an Assistant Master at the increment nearest above his present
salary.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P.,
&C...
&
Governor,&c..
